Lysergic Grooves

Round about March to April of 1992 we had a Saturday night run in the back room of the Circa nightclub in Glasgow.  The club was called Lysergic after my favourite substance at the time.  For this one we teamed up with DJ’s Terry and Jason from pussy power.

Pussy power consisted of a crew of ravers of similar outlook to my own crew – the Trans Euro Cartel. They had been organising illegal parties, raves and the like round about the same time as us – 1991,1992 and beyond.  Whereas we chucked it after a while, they seem to have made a better job of it, and I see that Terry and Jason is still on the scene today.  Terry’s been kind enough to leave a few comments on this blog.

I have hazy memories of being at parties of theirs in an industrial unit in the Gorbals, and another in a house in the west end, which must have been around that late 1991 and early 1992 period.  We shared similar musical influences from Detroit and Holland. The Lysergic thing never quite got off the ground.  There just weren’t enough punters to support a full night’s techno scene at that period, and the venue was pretty crappy.  So for now the techno scene remained very much low key and underground.

Many thanks to Jamie Allison for sending me an old djwuggs mixtape.  Really enjoyed hearing it again, but must admit to cringing at every dj’ing error recorded on there for posterity.  I reckon this one’s from around the same time as our Lysergic night.  So without further ado, here’s the link to an original djwuggs mix (apologies for the sound quality – obviously not the best coming off a 20 year old C90 tape!).
